Accuracy and sourcing

Factual claims should be traceable to primary documents, data or named, accountable sources. Articles list their sources at the bottom of the page.

People and institutions we write about should be given a fair chance to respond before publication wherever practical.

News, analysis, explainers, fact checks and commentary carry distinct labels so readers always know what they are reading.

Editorial decisions are made by editors, not advertisers, supporters or outside interests. Supporting the outlet does not buy coverage.

Any generated or illustrative image is labeled as such and is never presented as documentary photography.
